RETIREMENT IS TOO BIG AND TOO IMPORTANT TO SCREW UP

2025 Edition of The Barbell Strategy

Welcome back. The moment so many of you have been waiting for. At least judging from your questions. We are going to check in on Jeff Fersonian and see how his TSP is holding up after 7 or so years of retirement.

For those of you that are new, let me explain briefly what this is. It’s more than an article. It’s more like a short book. Inside, it includes detailed explanations of what the TSP investment options are, and how one might allocate their funds when they are in retirement.

It’s written in 4th grade language. Even FBI agents can understand it. (I write it at that level because that’s literally the best I can do according to all my English teachers.) It also illustrates everything by using a fictional character (you guys do know Jeff isn’t real, right?) who retired in December of 2017. Since then we have tracked his TSP in real-time, using real returns. There is nothing theoretical in his investment performance. Warts and all, we see how the TSP has been holding up by someone who not only can’t contribute to it anymore, but has also been taking out quite a bit in withdrawals since he retired. You will see that. Is he running out of money? That’s the question everyone has, right? Will I run out of money? Let’s find out.

It is not financial advice of any kind. It’s not tax advice. It’s not investment advice. It’s not a recommendation of any kind for anything. And it’s certainly not a prediction of anything in the future. You’ll have to go pay a financial pro for that.
